Two Hearted Aquatic Habitat Improvement Project

Organization: The Nature Conservancy

Lake/River Basin:
Lake Superior

Project Description: The Nature Conservancy is improving fish passage on the South Branch of the Two Hearted River by fixing a major road crossing. By replacing the existing, undersized culverts with a more suitable bridge or box culvert structure, the partial barrier to fish passage will be eliminated, improving fish access to 24 miles of high-quality cold water stream habitat. The new crossing will also eliminate a significant source of sedimentation into the river. Project partners will include Trout Unlimited and Lake Superior State University.
