Restoring Habitat in the North Branch of the Clinton River

Organization: Clinton River Watershed Council

Lake/River Basin: Lake Erie, Clinton River

Project Description: Restoring habitat in the Clinton River, this project will remove two dams on the North Branch of the river in the Lake Erie basin. Removal of the dams will open up an additional 93 miles of stream and tributary habitat to benefit native fish and mussel species. The Council will use river restoration approach to stabilize the stream and reduce bank erosion and sedimentation caused by the failure of one of the dams. To complete this work, the Clinton River Watershed Council will collaborate with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Huron Clinton Metroparks and private land owners.
